The Story

Slam that rewind button back to 1947. That’s where it all started; Right in the heart of New York City on 536 Broadway. Just about 70 years ago my Grandpa Jack flipped the switch and his clothing factory was open for business. The early Cohen & Sons Apparel shop cranked out high quality garments for almost half a century until competition overseas forced him to shut off the lights and close up shop.

For my entire life the brand laid dormant while I grew up listening to the stories of the factory floor where my family hand cut and stitched giant rolls of fabric into high quality apparel. Over the years the more stories I heard, the more I wanted a piece of the action.

A few years went by while I put my dream on hold. Every day I would throw on a respected designer shirt that would eventually shrink, fade, or get destroyed doing anything but mundane activities. No matter which brand I picked up at the department store, the fate was always the same. After tossing a few more shirts out I started thinking that just a few decades ago my grandfather shop was crafting quality apparel in an era that demanded it. Which made me think; why shouldn’t we demand it too?

With quality in mind I set out to revive my family brand and create comfortable and stylish apparel for guys that get out there and don’t have time to worry about the shirt on their back.

For the next year I raced home after work to design all the apparel and tie up the loose ends by moonlight. All I needed was a little cash on top to nudge me off the edge. That little nudge came one morning in the form of a nasty gravel infused curve ball that landed me and my motorcycle in a world of destruction.

The day I crashed ended up being one of the best days of my life. A broken wrist left me with a whole lot of spare time on my hands. While the insurance check for the totaled bike was just enough to give me the courage to quit my job and swing for the fences.

A few weeks later I turned to Kickstarter to help bring high quality, great fitting shirts to the world. After what was possibly the hardest 30 days of my life; C&S raised just shy of $12,000. Each dollar was used to ship Cohen & Sons Apparel to hundreds of happy customers around the world!

As we continue to grow and expand our lines the focus will always remain on providing quality apparel for our customers. I set out to create gear that looks awesome and feels great no matter what stressful situations you put it through. After all, the last thing that should get in the way of any fun is the shirt on your back.
